“Passionate and committed to engaging those around her. As a new member of YPJ in 2014, she quickly found ways to become more involved and help the YPJ move to the next level. She is the coordinator of alumni relations at the University of Jamestown. She does a great job of keeping everyone in the loop along the way as the organization grows and is active at meeting, and was the key communicator for the 2015 YPJ year. She is a member of the executive team and focuses on following up on projects, and organizing the projects and activities to ensure that things get done, Morgan demonstrated that she will go above and beyond to connect, empower and inspire young professionals to make a difference in our community.”
Owner/Manager Mike Harris, opened in October of 2009 and has remodeled their kitchen and updated the interior of their building. They have added several employees, and are known for their wonderful customer service, great food, and inviting atmosphere. They were chosen as BOY for the above and also because of their commitment to the community.
“I believe that above and beyond awards and accomplishments, this individual truly makes a difference in our community by leading through influence. I have known him for almost a decade and through that time, I have witnessed the impact that he makes on the people that surround him. I define his actions as a perfect example of servant leadership. Whether it is within his interactions in the community, leadership on local boards, mentoring as a leader in the church, relationship with his wife or simply as a friend, he always serves first. He has the ability to use his genuine influence to make a positive difference in his interactions throughout the community.”
Congratulations to Reverend Terry Anderson for being this year’s outstanding citizen of the year.
Here are some examples that Samantha Beckman shared about Reverend Anderson:
– As a leader in the church – my husband and I were so fortunate to have the opportunity to have Reverend Anderson as our pastor for our wedding. Through this experience, we witnessed the true passion that he has to ensure successful relationships. My favorite part of the experience was his story-telling. Not only did Reverend Anderson teach us the concepts that great couples should follow, but he shared personal examples of what makes a successful relationship. In summary, he emphasized the value to both my husband and I to serve one another, be great communicators and have purpose. Exactly how he demonstrates his love for those around him and most importantly, his wife, Sue.
– As a leader on a Board of Directors – as an employee at JRMC, I have had the opportunity to witness Reverend Anderson’s leadership on the JRMC Board of Directors. He has been instrumental in his 12 years of service on the JRMC Board of Directors. Accomplishments during this period of time include the building of a brand new hospital; the recruitment of an orthopedic surgeon, a foot and ankle surgeon, a urologist; the development of oncology coming in the community; 3D mammography; and growth in JRMC’s presence in the community. In the meetings that I have been involved in, I continually hear Reverend Anderson emphasizing that success is about building relationships. Yet another demonstration of servant leadership. Reverend Anderson has been a key component in allowing JRMC to be a leader in the healthcare industry.
– As a leader in the community – as a University of Jamestown volleyball alumni, it is great to see local community members present at home games. I actually met Reverend Anderson and Sue as a freshman on the volleyball team. Committed to being present in the community and supporting the local schools, they attended almost every home volleyball game of my 4 year career and continue to do so. Their commitment to education and supporting the community is apparent with their amount of Jimmie and Blue Jay apparel.
Overall, Reverend Terry Anderson consistently demonstrates how to listen, empathize, be a good steward, grow, influence and most importantly, how to make a difference in what you do each day. Reverend Terry Anderson has inspired and influenced myself, my husband and members of our community to be servants of one another.
From Searle Swedlund – I first met Bill when working on the trail maps for the Split Rock and Overlook hiking/biking/running trails along the Jamestown Reservoir. Bill came up with the idea and with his family push mower, he carved the original 8 miles of trails from the sides of the hills.
For the past five years, Bill has maintained these trails without compensation. He quickly realized the family mower wasn’t the best tool, and some years ago acquired a push trail mower that he still had to maneuver up and down the hills, but it worked better for creating new cuts in the hills. This past year, through a grant, he purchased a pull-behind trail mower because, “He was getting too old to push the trail mower 16 miles every time it needed to be cut.”
I believe Bill has gone above and beyond for five years with little recognition. Each summer, he has maintained these 8 miles on his own or just with help from his family. Because the push mower is only 2.5 feet wide, Bill would have to mow the trail twice to make sure the path was wide and comfortable for the user.
In addition to creating something that makes our community a better place to live, Bill has done all of this with his own resources and time.
