Bemis, age 91, of Valley City, died Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.

Arlene Jeanette Hill was born on September 18, 1924 in Sanborn, ND to Floyd and Effie (Severson) Hill.  She attended school until 6th grade in Sanborn and then she and her family moved to Valley City where she graduated from Valley City High School.

She married her high school sweetheart, Howard Bemis, on August 15, 1945 and they made their home in Valley City.

Arlene was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and often sang on the local radio station and at many weddings and funerals.  In her younger days, she enjoyed being in a bridge club and tending to her flower gardens and yard.  Several afternoons a week you could find her having coffee with friends at Roby’s Restaurant.

She loved watching Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Timberwolves games on TV.  She loved her granddaughters and great-grandchildren dearly and loved to hear about all of their activities.  She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Georgia (Jim) Manstrom, Valley City, ND, 2 granddaughters, Andrea (Mark) Winter, Valley City, ND and Melissa (Lyle) Mee, Jamestown, ND, five great-grandchildren, Brenna, Ellie, and Trevor Winter and Dawson and Avery Mee, a sister-in-law, Lila Bemis, Valley City, ND, and her life-long friend, Peggy Jacobson, Valley City, ND.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Gordon and Donald.

To honor Arlene’s wishes, no funeral will be held but there will be a private family prayer service.  Interment will take place in Woodbine Cemetery later in the spring.
