CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Barnes County Sheriff’s office will take over truck regulation duties this year.

Commissioner John Froehlich would like the truck regulatory patrol to be conducted weekly and have monthly reports forwarded to the Barnes County Commission.

Sheriff Randy McClaflin says the county will save money by not hiring another person. He says the Highway Patrol has agreed to train deputies on how to weigh trucks.

The Barnes County Commission unanimously passed a motion to approve the truck regulatory operating plan on January 19. $45,751 will cover the equipment costs.

The Regional Truck Regulatory Board was dissolved six months ago after the regulatory officer was terminated.
