(NewsDakota.com) – Coming into the doubleheader on Thursday night at Jerry Meyer Arena both Century teams were widely regard as the class of the WDA, but the Patriots got all they could handle from Jamestown.
The Century girls, ranked No. 2 in Class A, needed a last-second three-pointer from Josie Anderson to win 61-58. In the boys game, the Pats were able to hold off the Jays for a 71-64 victory.
Megan Gaffaney tied the game with 21 seconds left on a driving right handed lay-up. On the final possession, the Jays defense stood strong and shut down the go-to options of Regan Dennis and Kourtney Selensky. But it was Anderson who found herself open on the right wing with the clock nearing zero and she buried the game winner.
Jamestown trailed early in the game by eight before rallying to take a 29-27 lead into half. Gaffaney lead the Jays with 18.
All-staters Noah Wanzek and Dalton Feeney battled it out in the boys game, each pouring in 20-plus. Jamestown had their chances down the stretch, but a costly turnover and a few missed shots cost them an upset chance.
