CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 2016 Barnes County Boys Basketball Tournament tipped off inside the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse in Valley City on Tuesday afternoon and the higher seeds all came away with a win in the quarterfinals. 

#1 Milnor/North Sargent 85 #8 Barnes County North 59 

The Milnor/North Sargent Bulldogs shot 61.7% from the floor and forced 14 turnovers in their win over the Barnes County North Bison. 

Jacob Hanson scored a team high 23 points for the Bulldogs, while shooting 10-11 from the floor, teammate Masen Olsen added 20 points and 4 rebounds. 

The Bison were paced by Allen Contreras with a game high 25 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist. 

#4 Maple Valley 53 #5 Griggs County Central 49 

Maple Valley erased a 6 point halftime deficit in their quarterfinal round win over Girggs County Central.

Hunter Smith led the way for the Raiders with 15 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist, while Alexander Ringstad led the Cougars with 19 points in a losing effort. 

The turning point of the game was in the third quarter, where Maple Valley outscored Griggs Country Central 17-6.

#2 Enderlin 81 #7 Sargent Central 38 

The first quarter finished tied at 12 apiece and then the Enderlin Eagles dominated the second quarter to take a 38-23 lead into the half. 

Peter Lindgren scored 23 points and grabbed 7 points, while Graham Hurlburt added 20 points for Enderlin in the win. 

Brook Bergh and Matthew Colemer had 9 points each in the loss. Sargent Central had 21 turnovers and were limited to 29% shooting from the floor. 

#3 LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 67 #6 Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page 48

Drew Thielges scored a tournament high 30 points, while shooting 6-11 from beyond the arc in LaMoure-Litchville/Marion’s win over Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page. 

The Loboes went 8-19 from the three point line as a team and forced 12 turnovers in the win. 

Ethan Brown recorded a double-double for the Spartans, scoring 26 points alongside 12 rebounds.
