N.D.- The Oakes High School boys basketball team is still searching for their first win in District 1 play in the 2011-12 season, after falling to the North Sargent Bobcats on Friday night by the final score of 70-47.
The Tornadoes were not able to contain the likes of senior Josh Hansana, who eclipsed the 1,000 point mark in his high school career. Hansana needed only seven to reach 1,000 and ended with 24 points. Junior Zach Drevlow also made the night difficult on Oakes, scoring a team high 25 points.
“I thought we did pretty darn good on Hansana.” said Oakes Head Coach Brandon Bata. “He’s going to get his points, but I thought he had to earn them tonight. We could have done a way better job on Drevlow. I think he got a lot of inside buckets that weren’t needed, in addition to some “and one” fouls because we were out of position.”
Three players scored in double figures for Oakes, lead by 12 from freshman Bryce Meehl. Tanner Zetocha had 11 and ten points came in from Victor Cordova.
With the loss, the Tornadoes are now 1-8 overall, and 0-4 in District 1 play. Next up is a home contest Tuesday night against a team from District 5; the Edgeley-Kulm Rebels.
