Fargo, ND (NewsDakota.com) – After starting 2 hours late due to rain delays throughout Thursday afternoon the Oakes Tornadoes got a huge bounce back victory to keep their season alive and advance on in the Region 1 Tournament, beating Hankinson-TriState-Lidgerwood (HFCTRL) 12-1 in 5 innings.

The game started with HFCTRL getting two men on in the 1st inning off of a HBP and an E1. However a 5-3 double play would end the inning before any damage could be done. Oakes would then get there 1st three men aboard via singles and get themselves a 2-0 lead through 1 inning of play.

HFCTRL would again threaten in the 2nd getting 2 on in scoring position however they’d be unable to capitalize off of it. Oakes would end up getting another run in the 2nd off of a Deagan Roehrich double and James Throener single making it 3-0 through 2.

The 3rd inning would see HFCTRL get on the board after Eli Jarabek would reach on an E6. He would get to second on a wild pitch and come home on a Jace Stenson single making it 3-1. Oakes would then respond in the bottom half of the inning with 2 more runs with Harry Neustal driving in Chris Titus on a double and then himself coming in on a sac fly to make it 5-1 through 3.

The Tornadoes made quick work of HFCTRL in the 4th facing 1 over the minimum. Oakes then would score 7 runs on 4 hits and 3 errors to make it a 12-1 game as they blew the game open. Of those runs none of them ended up being earned. The Tornadoes would face the minimum in the 5th to end the game on the 10-run rule to win 12-1.

The winning pitcher was James Throener (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 R, 0 ER). The losing pitcher was Eli Jarabek (3.1 IP, 8 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 10 R, 4 ER) with Jace Stenson (.2 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 R, 0 ER) relieving him in the 4th.

HFCTRL’s season comes to a close as Oakes advances onto play Saturday at Starion Bank Field in Fargo once again in the loser-out bracket semifinals against the Lisbon Broncos at 3:00 pm.
