
JAMESTOWN – Clutch hitting eluded Jamestown Jimmies Baseball in game one of a Saturday doubleheader, but a big fourth inning then led Jamestown to a rout.
Jamestown split a baseball doubleheader with Dickinson State on Saturday at Jack Brown Stadium. The Blue Hawks rallied for a 5-2 win in nine innings in game one before the Jimmies blasted DSU in game two 15-5.
Game 1: Dickinson State 5, Jamestown 2 (9)
Jadyn Roberts blasted a three-run home run to right field in the top of the ninth to complete a comeback from 2-0 down for Dickinson State (15-23, 7-6 NSAA).
Ryan Muizelaar hit a two-run home run in the first inning, his 12th of the season, for a 2-0 lead for the Jimmies (29-12, 8-5).
Cam Erickson gave DSU its first run with a solo home run in the third inning.
Jamestown was within two outs of a win when Luis Rodriguez tied the game on a solo home run with one out in the seventh off Avery Liestman.
UJ missed numerous chances to widen their lead. Jamestown was only 1-of-15 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners, including nine in scoring position.
Trent Chavez (2-0) pitched the last two innings in relief for Dickinson State, striking out four.
Joe Hart (1-1), the fourth of five Jimmie pitchers, allowed Roberts’ go-ahead home run. Liestman allowed two runs and six hits in six and a third innings.
Game 1: Jamestown 15, Dickinson State 5 (7)
Jamestown (30-12, 9-5 NSAA) pounded out 18 hits and broke a 3-3 tie with a nine-run fourth inning, sending 13 batters to the plate.
Chase Burke gave the Jimmies a 4-3 lead with an RBI triple, followed by a two-run home run by Alex Alva. Later in the inning, Triston Madison hit a two-run single, Ben Patton clouted a three-run homer and Riki Okamaoto had an RBI single.
Muizelaar had homered again in the third inning for his 13th home run and 50th RBI of the season.
Patton was 4-for-4 with four RBI.
Luke Zimmer (6-3) yielded four runs and six hits in four and two-thirds innings.
Wyatt Wilharm hit two home runs for Dickinson State (15-24, 7-7).
This victory gives Head Coach Tom Hager 18 30-win seasons in his 26-season tenure.
