
JAMESTOWN – One of the top NSAA pitchers stopped Jamestown Jimmies Softball Friday before UJ rallied in the nightcap.
Jamestown split an NSAA softball doubleheader Friday with Bellevue inside the Nelson Family Bubble. The Bruins took game one 2-0 before the Jimmies captured the second game 7-1.
Game 1: Bellevue 2, Jamestown 0
Before this game, Jamestown (27-13, 11-2 NSAA) was batting .335 for the season. But senior pitcher Katie Cunningham shut Jamestown’s offense almost completely down, holding the Jimmies to three hits in a shutout.
Cunningham (12-6) struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter. Jamestown had two of their three hits in the the fourth inning, the only frame where UJ had two runners on at the same time.
Also, Cunningham drove in the go-ahead run for Bellevue (24-15, 9-4) with a single in the sixth inning. Alexa Sidel plated the other run with a single in the seventh.
Maddie Spaeth had two of the three hits for Jamestown.
Hope Ransome (8-6) also struck out eight in a six-hit complete game.

Offense started for the Jimmies (28-13, 12-2 NSAA) in the first inning. Spaeth singled with two out, then Kayla Quintanilla doubled her in. Another run scored on an error.
Another error by Bellevue (24-15, 9-5) scored another run for Jamestown in the third. Lauren Weigel and Quintanilla hit run-scoring doubles in the fifth inning. Trinity Gregg provided the last two runs with an inside-the-park home run in the sixth.
Abby Blair (9-6) allowed a run and six hits in six and a third innings, striking out two.
Before Friday, the Jimmies shared the NSAA lead with Dickinson State. The Blue Hawks will begin a home series with VCSU Saturday. DSU is 11-1 in league play.
Jamestown will again host Bellevue on Saturday, this time at Trapper Lawrence Field. The doubleheader will begin at noon.
