VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Barnes County 4-H proudly recognizes the incredible dedication of its
volunteers, who make a lasting impact on youth and communities across the county.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of the 4-H program, serving as club leaders, project mentors, event organizers, and
positive role models. Each one plays a vital role in creating hands-on learning experiences that help young
people develop confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of community.
“Our volunteers go above and beyond,” said Susan Milender, Barnes County Extension Agent. “They give their
time and energy to support youth in meaningful ways, and their impact is felt far beyond the 4-H year. We are
deeply grateful for their ongoing commitment.”
Throughout Barnes County, 4-H volunteers contribute countless hours supporting programming in areas such as
agriculture, STEM, healthy living, and civic engagement. From guiding first-time members to mentoring teens
through leadership projects, their contributions help youth grow and thrive.
“My 4-H leader taught me how to speak up, try new things, and believe in myself,” said Chesney Thomsen,
a Barnes County 4-H member. “I always know they’re there to cheer me on and help me grow.”
“Volunteering with 4-H has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life,” said Tina Bryn, longtime 4-H
volunteer. “Watching the kids develop their confidence and skills year after year is what keeps me coming
back.”
Whether a volunteer has been involved for one year or several decades, their influence is powerful and deeply
appreciated. The Barnes County Extension Office extends its sincere thanks to all current and past volunteers
who help make 4-H a welcoming and inspiring space for youth to learn and lead.
