NORTHWOOD (NewsDakota)- The old sports saying that is also true for life is “sometimes you learn more in a loss than you do in a win”. And if that is the case, the Carrington softball team now knows they belong in the discussion.
After falling behind early, the Cardinals (2-3, 1-1) cut a six-run deficit to two before May-Port CG (1-5) pulled away for a 9-4 Region II win in Northwood on Tuesday.
The Cardinals fell behind 6-0, thanks in large part to a four-run third inning for the Patriots in which they collected four hits and were aided by an error. But in the sixth, Ella Volk and Lauren Hendrickson reached on consecutive errors before Aubrey Neis singled and Maara Kutz singled, and suddenly it was 6-4.
The Patriots responded with three in the home half as they collected three hits in the inning to extend the lead to the final margin, which was the closest Carrington has ever played May Port-CG in the four years of the program.
The Cardinals are next in action on Tuesday for the home opener against Langdon Area/Munich with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 3:45pm
