TURTLE LAKE (NewsDakota)- Sometimes in this sport, all you can really do is simultaneously shake your head and laugh in disbelief. It’s likely Carrington Head Coach Brady Smith did just that on Monday.
Trailing a good Central McLean team 10-7 after six innings, the Cardinals erupted for thirteen seventh-inning runs in a come-from-behind 20-11 win on Monday afternoon.
After Central McLean took a 2-0 second-inning lead, Carrington (2-2) responded with a four-run third that included three hits and a hit batter. The see-saw affair continued with the Cougars (2-1) getting a run in the third and four in the fourth for a 7-6 lead.
Then, after Central McLean scored three in the last of the sixth to break a 7-7 tie, Carrington went to work. The seventh inning saw the Cardinals send seventeen to the plate with thirteen scoring on six hits, capped by Maara Kutz’ 7th career home run, and though Central McLean scored a run in the home half, the damage had been done.
The Cardinals are right back at it on Tuesday, traveling to Northwood to take on May Port-CG/Hatton-Northwood in Region II action at 4:30pm.
