OAKLAND CITY, IN – For a time, it appeared that University of Jamestown Men’s Volleyball would triumph in the program’s last match as an NAIA member.  However, Oakland City rallied to end UJ’s season in disappointment.

The Oaks topped the Jimmies Sunday 18-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-10 at the Johnson Center.

Jamestown (7-20) hit a blistering .577 in the first set, with 16 kills and only one attack error.  The Jimmies started with a 10-4 lead and the Oaks didn’t again come within five points in the set.

Set two was tied at 9-9 before Jamestown produced a 6-2 run, helped by kills from Tysen Myers, Gabriel Ocasio and Michal Niemiec.  Oakland City (15-14) was as close as 21-18 before the Jimmies scored the last four points.  Tomas Swiderski had a kill, followed by two combined blocks by Myers and Niemiec and an ace by Markam Cook.

Jamestown’s struggles began in the third set with 11 attack errors.  The Jimmies were down just 18-16 before Oakland City had a 7-2 run to end the set.  Pawel Kulinski and Hazem Nabil had kills for the Oaks, but UJ had four attack errors and a service error in that run.

Oakland City was strong in the fourth set, hitting .417 and starting with a 7-2 lead.  Swiderski and Markam Cook helped Jamestown recover with two kills each in a stretch that aided the Jimmies to a 21-19 advantage.  Gaston Barrionuevo and Tinevimbo Goto killed for the Oaks as they then led 23-22.  Swiderski killed for UJ and a 23-23 tie, then Robin Ruhe and Nabil killed for Oakland City to force a fifth set.

Eight errors and a hitting percentage of -.045 doomed the Jimmies in the deciding set as Oakland City surged to an 11-4 lead.  Goto had three kills, but the Oaks also had six scoring blocks.  Jamestown came no closer than down four points before another attack error ended the match.

Barrionuevo and Goto had 12 kills each for Oakland City.  Kulinski had eight total blocks.

Swiderski had 23 kills and Niemiec 19 for Jamestown.  Swiderski and Cook each served two aces.  Ocasio had 51 set assists.
