OAKLAND CITY, IN – University of Jamestown Men’s Volleyball split two matches Saturday to begin their last weekend of play for the season.  The Jimmies lost in four sets to 15th-ranked Reinhardt, then won in straight sets over University of Rio Grande at Oakland City University’s Johnson Center.

Jamestown (6-19) stunned Reinhardt in the first set, putting together an 8-1 run for an 18-8 lead. The run included two kills by Tomasz Swiderski, kills by Gabriel Ocasio and Benjamin Allred and a combined block by Swiderski and Allred. Tysen Myers had two kills later in the set, including for the 25th point. Jamestown hit .444 in the set.

Jamestown was down 12-11 in the second set before Reinhardt (20-5) scored seven of the next eight points. Jakub Aniolczyk had three kills in this stretch and Andrea Forcina served two aces. Aniolczyk had another kill to wrap up the set for the Eagles.

Swiderski and Michal Niemiec had kills and Markam Cook served an ace as Jamestown started the third set with a 5-2 lead. Reinhardt rallied for a 7-7 tie before the Jimmies took a 10-7 lead. Down 12-10, the Eagles came back to lead 15-13 before the Jimmies tied at 17-17, 19-19 and 20-20. An error, a kill and two blocks gave Reinhardt a 24-21 advantage. Niemiec killed to bring UJ within 24-23 before Aniolczyk killed to give Reinhardt a 2-1 lead.

Allred had one kill and Swiderski smashed two in a 4-0 run for a 13-11 Jamestown lead in the fourth set. Then, Reinhardt scored six straight on two kills by Gabriel Gutierrez and four attack errors. The Jimmies then had the next three points and were down 17-16. At 19-16, the Jimmies scored four straight, including kills by Myers and Swiderski, to lead 20-19. Reinhardt then scored six of the last eight points to end the match.

Aniolczyk had 15 kills, two aces and four blocks for Reinhardt. Gutierrez also had 15 kills. Christian DeLeon had 10 total blocks.

Swiderski had 20 kills and seven total blocks for Jamestown. Niemiec had 13 kills and 10 digs.

Good play for the Jimmies (7-19) carried over into their second straight-set win of the season. Jamestown hit .231 and held Rio Grande (16-12) to -.023.

Niemiec led with 12 kills. Swiderski had 10 kills, two aces, six total blocks and six digs.

Swiderski had two kills in an 8-2 run to begin the first set. The Red Storm came no closer than three points.

Swiderski blasted two kills and an ace and Cook also served an ace as the Jimmies led 11-2 to begin the second set and cruised.

In the third set, Jamestown turned a 9-6 lead into a 15-7 advantage with the help of two kills by Allred and one by Niemiec. Swiderski and Allred combined for scoring blocks on each of the last two points of the match.

Jamestown will end its season Sunday against Oakland City University.
