MANDAN – The new head coach has his first win.

Jamestown Blue Jays Baseball, behind a complete game pitching and four RBI at the plate by Jaxon Kolpin, gave new head coach Tim Ranum his first win Thursday 7-3 over Mandan in the first game of a doubleheader at Veterans Memorial Ballpark.  Mandan rallied from a 4-1 deficit to win the second game 6-4.

Game 1: Jamestown 7, Mandan 3
Jamestown (1-2, 1-2 WDA) trailed Mandan 3-2 through four innings, but a critical Mandan error started the go-ahead rally in the Jamestown fifth. With two out, Edison Walters reached second on an error. Thomas Newman walked and Ethan Oettle was hit by a pitch before Kolpin drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a single. Bennett Goehner followed with a two-run triple and the Blue Jays led 6-3.

Kolpin drove in an insurance run with a single in the seventh.

On the mound, Kolpin (1-0) allowed three runs and five hits in his first four innings, then gave up just one hit and struck out four in the last three frames.

Troy Gerhardt and Jensen Schulz drove in runs for Mandan (2-3-1, 1-2).

Game 2: Mandan 6, Jamestown 4
Mandan (3-3-1, 2-2) trailed 4-1 before scoring single runs in the second and third against Jamestown starter Zach Gaiser (0-1).

With one out in the fifth inning, Gaiser allowed a single to Aiden Bogner and a double to Schulz. A passed ball scored the tying run and a wild pitch brought home the go-ahead run.

Ty Weiler (1-0) was dominant in relief for the Braves, striking out 10 batters in five innings.

Jamestown (1-3, 1-3) scored twice in each of the first two innings. Oettle slammed an RBI triple and Kolpin hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning. In the second, Cody Busch hit an RBI double and Oettle knocked an RBI single.

Jamestown will host Fargo South in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday at noon at Jack Brown Stadium.
