
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Valley City Hi-Liners traveled with a small group to compete in the Eastern Dakota Conference Indoor Championships at the University of North Dakota. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams delivered strong performances on the track and in the field.
“We’re proud of what these athletes have accomplished during the indoor season and look forward to carrying this momentum into the outdoor season,” the coaching staff said.
Up next is a late-spring indoor meet at Concordia on April 8, which will include a limited number of athletes due to entry restrictions based on performance rankings. The Hi-Liners will open their outdoor season on April 11 at West Fargo Sheyenne.
Women’s Team
The girls’ team had six athletes place in events, while setting 11 personal records and five school records.
Morgan Larson continued her rise in the sprints, placing sixth in the 200-meter dash with a new personal record. Her time now ranks first on the VCHS indoor school performance list, breaking a 37-year-old school record. She also set the sophomore indoor record for the event and placed seventh in the 60-meter dash with another personal best.
Maddie Wendel had a standout performance in the pole vault, finishing third and setting the senior indoor record. She now ranks second on the VCHS indoor performance list.
Kadie Kocka placed second in the pole vault and added a sixth-place finish in the long jump.
Greta Goven placed third in the 800-meter run and improved her second-place time on the VCHS indoor 1600-meter list.
Sprinters Marisa Hoffarth and Alayna Gardner each set two personal records — Hoffarth in the 60 and 200 meters, and Gardner in the 200 and 400 meters.
Tessa Anderson set a new personal best in the shot put, improving her previous mark by more than two feet.

Men’s Team
The boys’ team had two athletes place and set 11 personal records along with two new school records.
Derek Shape continued to excel in the sprints, placing fifth in the 200-meter dash with a new personal record. He also improved his fifth-place time on the VCHS indoor performance list. Shape opened the meet with a personal best in the 60 meters.
Koltyn Grebel placed seventh in the 400 meters, recording a new personal best. His time now ranks third on the school’s indoor performance list.
Zach Giesler posted personal records in both the 60 and 200 meters and has steadily improved throughout the indoor season.
Owen Hunt also impressed in the shot put, setting a personal record by more than three feet.
