VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – “Hands Off” rallies were held all across the USA on Saturday, April 5th with thousands of people coming out to protest federal cuts done by the executive orders of the president—over 111 executive orders to date. Valley City decided to get an early start and held their rally on Friday, April 4th with over 30 people from ages 14 to 98 coming out to rally at the post office.
The Valley City protest was one of several across the state—others happened in Grand Forks, Fargo and Bismarck, Jamestown, Minot and Devils Lake. Approximately 2000 people lined both sides of the Veterans Memorial Bridge between Fargo and Moorhead, and over 1000 came out in Bismarck.
The weekend protests were a family affair for the entire Elizabeth and Lee Krueger family (sons Casey, Jacob, and Quin) even though they no longer all live in Valley City. States Elizabeth, “our older boys are in college and participated in rallies in Winona and St. Peter, MN. Our youngest asked earlier in the week if he could attend the Valley City event on Friday and the
protest on Memorial Bridge in Fargo on Saturday. As parents, we are very proud our boys are willing and wanting to stand up and voice concerns about what is happening in our country.
Attending these rallies provides a feeling of hope that we are not alone, and there are others that share our dismay and outrage. Being with like-minded people gives us resolve to continue speaking up for our beliefs. The point of the many rallies across the USA is that average Americans care about our country and are standing up to Trump and Elon Musk the unelected head of the DOGE Dept, and his DOGE boys who are ignoring the laws and ignoring our elected Congressmen.
The “Hands Off” website states that this is a nationwide mobilization to stop the most brazen power grab in modern history. Trump and his billionaire cronies are orchestrating an all-out assault on our government, our economy, and our basic rights. He has cut almost 300,000 Federal jobs in the first quarter of this year, with 10,000 of them being in health. People are protesting that Trump is shuttering Social Security offices, firing essential workers, eliminating consumer protections. Valley Citians are also protesting that Trump is pursuing hundreds of billions of dollars in cuts to the Medicaid program to enact his tax and spending agenda.
Retired VCSU professor and protester Archie Moore, age 90, stated that “I came today to say to President Trump and the unelected Elon Musk, ‘Hands Off’ our Social Security, and ‘Hands Off’ our Medicaid.”
“Trump has also put our nation at risk”, states Sharon Buhr one of the rally organizers. “He has just fired the National Security Agency chief and five aids which puts us at greater risk from Russia and China.”
The attendees are asking Senators Hoeven and Cramer and Representative Fedorchak to fight back for us, using the power they have to represent us to rescind the many executive orders and to save Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, our Post Office.
