VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Tuesday, April 15 at 7 pm the Valley City State University Library will host “What in the world are you reading?” in Allen Memorial Library on the VCSU campus. The event is sponsored by “What in the World is Going On?”, a campus-community group whose purpose is to address issues of local, national and international importance. And there’s nothing more important than reading.

“All students (VCSU and high school) and all community members are invited to come and share a few minutes about a book they have recently read…or just come and listen,” states Hannah Beebe, VCSU Research Librarian who will moderate the discussion that evening. All attendees will receive, by email, a listing of all the books shared that evening. Beebe continues, “ I’m excited to talk about books whatever the genre…fiction, non fiction, fantasy, history, mysteries, the classics, theology, best sellers, etc.”

The event is being held the week after National Library Week which runs from April 6th to April 12th and is a celebration of all the work libraries do. The VCSU Allen Memorial Library and the VCBC Public Library are teaming up this National Library Week to celebrate our libraries through a super fun photo scavenger hunt! The photo scavenger hunt will run from Monday, April 7th  to Friday, April 11th  and includes five photo prompts for each library. Take all 10 photos and show them to a library worker at either library to get a prize! The prompts will be available via social media and in physical form at both libraries. Stop by either library to sign up for the scavenger hunt.

Also, Beebe shared an opportunity for all of us in Valley City and the surrounding area. “Did you know Valley City residents are able to get library cards for the VCSU library? The VCSU library offers library cards for our community that allow the holder to check out books from the VCSU collection! Our collection covers fiction and nonfiction for all age groups and is
consistently expanding. To get a library card, stop by the library with a form of ID and we’ll get you signed up”, states Beebe.
Beebe also shared information about an app (Libby) to get books on your smartphone or tablet, as well as being accessible through your web browser. As long as you have a library card with a library that offers Libby, you can borrow eBooks and audio books through the app. The Valley City Barnes County Public Library currently offers Libby access with an incredible assortment of titles available for checkout! “Please support our public library by looking into their Libby options and by using their other services,” concludes Beebe, “ and remember to come to the VCSU Library at 7pm on Tuesday, April 15th for ‘What in the World Are You Reading!”
