Steven Allen Olufson was born July 26, 1952, in Valley City, ND to Rosalie Russell. He grew up in Valley City and was a member of the VCHS Class of 1970. In high school, he attended Mopar Nationals. As a young man, he worked at A&W and did custom combining with Dale Colville.
In 1971, he married Glenyce “Glenny” Sorby. They made their home in Valley City and raised their three children. Steve worked for Beyer Cement and for Barnes County Highway Department before starting his own trucking company.
In 1995, Steve married Rita Graber. They made their home in Montana, first in Billings and then settling in Wibaux. He continued trucking until he retired. Even after he’d retired, friends and neighbors would call him up when they needed help with something mechanical. He had a knack for fixing things or giving advice easy enough to follow so you could fix it yourself.
Steve was a past member of the Eagles and the Sheyenne Valley Riding Club. He loved to visit and enjoyed time spent with his coffee crew. Snowmobiling and fishing were a couple of his pastimes. He frequented auctions and usually didn’t leave empty handed.
He is survived by his daughter, Bobbi (John) Suhr and her family, Miranda (Tanner) Zych and Greysen, Maevyn & Isla Zych, Allyson Dockter and Olivia & Piper Dockter, and Garret Suhr; daughter, Rebecca (Mitch Wittmer) McFadden and her family, Alexis & Landon McFadden and Riley & Shelby Wittmer; his son, Travis (Jen) Olufson and his family, Austin & Caleb Olufson; a half-brother, Dustin (Karen) Stevens; a half-sister, Sally (Dan) Basner; and 5 aunts, Donna Burgau, Kay Sorenson, Evalene Lee, Reta Jorddheim, and Joyce Elliff.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother, Glenn Olufson.
