Harold Scoular Pross was born on March 8, 1931 in Fargo, ND, the 2nd of 3 children of Howard and Hazel (Scoular) Pross. His early years were spent on the family farm in Baldwin Township. He attended Baldwin school for his first 8 grades. He then attended Luverne High School, where he lettered several times in basketball, and graduated in 1949. He was inducted into the Army in 1952 and served during the Korean War. After returning home in 1954, he worked on the family farm with his father and his older brother, Norman.
He married Janet Ripplinger, who was his best friend and became the love of his life on October 7th 1978. They lived on the family farm and continued to work it with his brother until Norman’s passing in 1998. They continued to farm it until April 4th, 2004, when Janet passed away. They enjoyed 25 years together playing cards, bowling and spending time with family. They took several trips visiting places such as Banff National Park in Canada, Las Vegas, NV, and Colorado.
He passed away at home on March 30th, 2025, at the age of 94. He was a hardworking, kind and gentle man who will be greatly missed.
Harold is survived by stepsons Terry (Deb) Sando and Tim (Ann) Ripplinger and their children Travis (Amanda) Sando, Josh (Coral) Ripplinger and Jeremy (Heather) Ripplinger and his grandchildren, Kira and Brinlee Sando and Samuel, Matilyn, Scarlett and Alexandra Ripplinger. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Pedersen, nephew Mark Pedersen and niece Julie Pedersen.
A public visitation will be held Saturday, April 5th from 9 to 11 am at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, followed by a private service. Burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery.
