VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Tennis Association (VCTA) held their boys tennis awards and pre-season girls meeting Thursday, March 27th in the Hi Liner Activity Center.

Miles Taylor was our lone senior. He played #1 for the last two seasons, lettered 5 times, and had 31 career varsity victories. Our program gives each varsity player a tennis yearbook each season.  As a senior, you also receive a tennis banner to display at graduation and as a keepsake. He is pictured with Coach Matt Nielson and his banner.

The North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association awarded the 2024 Valley City High School Girls’ Tennis Team as the North Dakota High School Co-Girls’ Team of the Year with the Mayport CG Girls’ Basketball Team. Also, the NDAPSSA awarded Coach Matt Nielson the High School Girls’ Coach of the Year. These awards came after the Hi-Liner Girls’ Tennis Team won the 2024 state championship going an undefeated 17-0.

The USTA Northern honored the accomplishments of the girls’ tennis team with a tennis key chain, a journal, and the following statement. “Congratulations to the Valley City High School Girls Tennis Team on your outstanding 2024 State Championship win! Your dedication and teamwork are an inspiration to us all, and we’re thrilled to honor your accomplishment during Women’s History Month.  Please know that your hard work, dedication, and success have not gone unnoticed.  Your accomplishments have reached far beyond your city’s borders, and we want to celebrate your well-deserved victory.  We hope that this recognition helps to highlight your remarkable achievement.”
