MADISON, SD – Pitching and defense again helped Jamestown Jimmie Baseball on Friday, but so again did the long ball.
Jamestown swept Dakota State 7-2 and 7-4 at Flynn Field to end the first weekend of NSAA play 3-1.
Game 1: Jamestown 7, Dakota State 2 (7)
Hot hitting continued for junior outfielder Ben Patton, who hit a three-run second inning home run and an RBI double for Jamestown (21-8, 2-1 NSAA). His double provided some need insurance for the Jimmies in the sixth, giving the visitors a 4-2 advantage. Patton has had 15 RBI in his last five games.
Jordan Singleton sealed the win for Jamestown with a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning.
Isaiah Roebuck was three-for-three with a double and scored two runs.
Starter Ryan Radkey (4-2) struck out three in five and a third innings while allowing two runs and five hits.
Ben Bohlmann stopped a DSU rally in the sixth and struck out three in an inning and two-thirds for his second save.
Game 2: Jamestown 7, Dakota State 4
UJ (22-8, 3-1 NSAA) used a two-run rally in the sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead. Singleton singled in Ryan Muizelaar for a 4-4 tie, then Triston Madison hit a sacrifice fly and the Jimmies led 5-4.
Wild pitches by Dakota State (14-15, 1-3) scored the last two Jamestown runs in the seventh and ninth innings.
Muizelaar gave the Jimmies a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-run homer, the first of his career-high four hits.
After Cameron DeMaria answered for the Trojans with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, Alex Alva hit a solo homer for a 3-2 lead in the visiting third, Jamestown’s 12th home run of the four-game series.
Austin Shelton (2-0) worked three innings of excellent relief, stopping two Dakota State threats. Shelton struck out two. Joe Hart pitched the last inning and two-thirds for his second save.
Jamestown is scheduled to have its first home games since the fall Friday with Mayville State at Jack Brown Stadium. Coverage of the doubleheader will begin Friday at 12:45 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
