SURPRISE, AZ – On Tuesday, Jamestown Jimmie Men’s Volleyball came from 2-1 down to win.  On Wednesday, that result was reversed to hand them a loss.

Ottawa University Arizona came back to defeat Jamestown 25-21, 23-25, 26-28, 25-20, 15-12 at Faith Arena, ending UJ’s two-match winning streak..

Jack Hubbard and Corey Johnson each had 14 kills for Ottawa (7-7).  Horatio Maumasi had 13 kills and Owen Draeger had 10 total blocks.

Michal Niemiec struck 24 kills for the Jimmies (6-17).  Tysen Myers had 12 kills and 10 total blocks.  Gabriel Ocasio had 50 set assists.

Ottawa hit .357 and had 15 kills to Jamestown’s nine while taking the first set.

The Jimmies led 10-5 early in the second set before the Spirit cut the margin to 16-15.  Ajani Layne, Niemiec and Myers had successive kills for a 19-15 Jamestown lead before Ottawa came back for ties at 22-22 and 23-23.  Two errors by Ottawa then gave UJ the second set.

Niemiec had a kill for set point in the third as Jamestown led 24-20.  Ottawa then scored five straight for a set point of their own.  Markam Cook killed for a 26-25 UJ lead before Corey Johnson had a kill for the Spirit for a 26-26 tie.  Niemiec then killed for a Jimmie 27-26 advantage and a block by Myers and Cook won the set.

Ottawa had an early 6-1 lead and 13 kills for a fourth set win.

The Jimmies were down 8-7 in the fifth set before Niemiec had a kill, Bodhi Bettes served an ace and Myers had a kill for a 10-8 UJ lead.  Ottawa scored three straight, then Jamestown tallied two for a 12-11 lead.  But the Spirit scored the last four to win the match on kills by Maumasi and Hubbard and two Jamestown errors.

Ottawa had 58 kills and the Jimmies had 53, but were held to hitting just .121.

On Thursday evening, Jamestown will play at sixth-ranked Benedictine University Mesa.
