VALLEY CITY, ND  (NewsDakota.com)  Superintendent Josh Johnson addressed the recommendations of the Valley City School Facilities Advisory Committee Thursday, a day after those recommendation were accepted by the school board.

The committee, which met several times over the past months, recommended a $46 million project to add a 3rd through 12th grade building that would be attached to Jefferson School on the east side of the building.  This building would replace Washington School and the current high school, bringing all students in the district into the same complex.

The estimated amount of deferred maintenance for the district is $37 million, leading to a decision of selling Washington and the current central administration building, demolishing the current high school, and retaining usage of the Hi-Liner Activity Center and attached cafeteria.  The price tag for the new project included demolition of the current high school building.
