MADISON, SD – Big innings helped Jamestown and Dakota State to wins Thursday in a split of the opening 2025 NSAA baseball doubleheader.

Dakota State scored four runs in the second inning and six in the fifth for a 10-4 win in game one at Flynn Field.  Jamestown broke a tight game open with five runs in the seventh inning and eight runs over the last three innings of the second game for a 12-5 triumph.

Game 1: Dakota State 10, Jamestown 4 (7)
Home runs provided Dakota State (14-12, 1-0 NSAA) with their first eight runs. In the second inning, Cameron DeMaria led off with his 11th home run of the season, a line drive over the wall in left center. With two on later in the same inning, Seth Altwine hit a three-run shot.

Solo home runs by Triston Madison in the fourth inning and Ben Patton in the fifth brought Jamestown (19-8, 0-1) to within 4-2.

Against struggling Jamestown starting pitcher Avery Liestman, Dakota State smashed two more home runs for the first four runs of a deciding six-run sixth, a solo shot by Aidan Perry and a three-run clout by Cassidy Watt. Against reliever Kai Mayfield, Darcy Barry was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Perry drew a bases-loaded walk to complete the rally.

Jordan Singleton’s solo homer provided the third Jimmie run in the sixth. An error scored the final run in the seventh.

Liestman (5-2) allowed a career-high 10 runs and nine hits in four and a third innings with five strikeouts and two walks.

Winner Nicholai Arbach (4-2) pitched his fifth complete game of the season for Dakota State, striking out 10.

Game 2: Jamestown 12, Dakota State 5
UJ held a 4-2 lead through six innings after leaving two runners on in both the fourth and sixth innings. Jamestown (20-8, 1-1 NSAA) then took advantage of poor Dakota State defense and two timely hits in a five-run seventh. Ryan Muizelaar reached on a Dawson Portner error scored Chase Burke, who had reached on another error. Jordan Singleton smacked a two-run homer to right to score Muizelaar. After three two-out walks, Ben Swennumson slapped a two-run pinch-single.

Isaiah Roebuck knocked a two-run double in the eighth inning and Chase Burke hit the Jimmies’ fifth home run of the game and eighth of the day in the ninth.

Alex Alva hit a solo home run and Singleton notched an RBI single in a two-run Jamestown first inning. Landon Runge cleared the fence with another solo shot in the top of the second.

Cameron Haller’s RBI groundout in the bottom of the second gave Dakota State (14-13, 1-1) its first run.

Muizelaar’s team-leading ninth home run in the third restored the UJ lead to three runs at 4-1.

Perry homered in the fourth with nobody on for Dakota State. Barry socked a three-run homer in the Trojans’ seventh.

Luke Zimmer (3-3) pitched six good innings for the Jimmies. He struck out eight while yielding two runs and just two hits.
