VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSU) – The Valley City State University Art Department presents Distracted by Daydreams, Eve Scott’s capstone exhibit, available in the Robinson Center for the Arts Gallery from March 31 to April 11.

A senior from Mandan, N.D., Scott is presenting an artist talk discussing her artwork on Monday, March 31, at 1:30 p.m. in the CFA Choir Room. A reception follows shortly after in the lobby. Scott’s artist talk will be live streamed on the VCSU Art Department YouTube and Facebook page.

Distracted by Daydreams strays away from the expected or ordinary to create a fantastical environment full of pastel colors, cute creatures, and a soft, bubbly aesthetic. Scott’s art expresses not only how pretty things can be in life, but how real and uncomfortable it can be. Her exhibit explores dreamy, whimsical natural forms and escapism through various 2-D and 3-D techniques, such as sculpture, painting, and installation. Her goal as a future educator is to inspire creativity in her students, creating a safe and positive environment where students can be themselves and feel respected and accepted.

Scott is student teaching in the fall of 2025 back in her hometown of Mandan. After graduation, she plans to teach K-12 art in North Dakota. Scott also plans to run a drama club at the school where she teaches or participate in a local community theater.
