BISMARCK, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Lottery players in North Dakota will experience a new version of Mega Millions® following the final drawing of the current game on Friday, April 4, 2025. Sales for the new game begin April 5 and the first drawing will be held Tuesday, April 8, at 10 p.m. Central.
“The new Mega Millions game will offer enhancements that bring excitement as well as value,” said Randy Miller, interim director of the North Dakota Lottery. “As part of the new game, the ‘Megaplier’ add on feature that currently costs an additional $1 per play will be retired and replaced with a built-in multiplier. Players who had won $2 in the old game could now win $10 to $50 under this game. Those who had won $500 under the old game could win $1,000 to $5,000 in this new game. That’s the kind of excitement the new Mega Millions will deliver to our players here in North Dakota.”
Game enhancements benefitting players include: non-jackpot prizes increase with built-in random multiplier (X2, X3, X4, X5 or X10), improved overall odds (1:23.07, currently 1:24.0), improved jackpot odds (1:290,472,336 from 1:302,575,350 currently), larger starting jackpots ($50 million, currently $20 million), and a minimum prize of $10 on a winning play.
With higher value prizes embedded throughout every tier of the game, tickets for the new Mega Millions game will increase to $5 per play and includes a built-in random multiplier at no extra cost. This is only the game’s second price adjustment since the first ticket was sold more than 15 years ago and the first change since the current game matrix was adopted in 2017.
Unless someone wins the jackpot on the April 4 drawing, the jackpot from the current game will roll into the new game and continue to grow with ticket sales from the new game. Players who have a winning ticket that was issued for a drawing prior to the game change and who claim their prize within 180 days of the April 4 drawing will be paid based on the prize matrix in effect during the time of the drawing for their ticket, regardless of when the prize is claimed.
Mega Millions is a national game with tickets sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings
are conducted at 10 p.m. Central Time on Tuesdays and Fridays in Atlanta, Georgia. For additional information on the
