Valley City’s Katie Burchill and Bryson Heck have been named to the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NDAPSSA) All-State basketball teams following standout seasons.

Burchill earned First Team All-State honors after leading the Hi-Liners to their first state championship in program history. The sophomore forward averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, shooting over 60% from the field. She was also named Class A State Tournament MVP, averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds during the tournament, including a 23-point, 10-rebound performance in Valley City’s 67-44 victory over Thompson in the championship game. Burchill will return next season as a junior.

Heck was selected to the Second Team despite the Hi-Liners’ struggles. The senior guard led Valley City in scoring, averaging 16.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. The Hi-Liners’ season ended in the quarterfinals of the Region 1 Tournament with a loss to Northern Cass. Heck will graduate this spring and continue his athletic career at Mayville State University, where he will play football.
