MESA, AZ – At least some of the frustration in what has so far been a taxing season for Jamestown Jimmie Men’s Volleyball was released on Monday night.

Jamestown snapped its eight-match losing streak with a straight-set win over Park University Gilbert 25-19, 25-18, 25-15 at the Arizona Athletic Grounds.

The Jimmies (5-16) earned their first victory since a win over Simpson University on February 8.

Tomasz Swiderski had 11 kills and hit .667 for UJ.  He also had three aces, two blocks and five digs.  Tysen Myers had nine kills (.692), two solo blocks & five total blocks and a dig.  Michal Niemiec scored nine kills, two assists, an ace, a block and five digs.  Gabriel Ocasio recorded 27 set assists.

In the first set, the Jimmies put distance between themselves and the Buccaneers (1-13) with two runs of 4-0,  Swiderski and Markam Cook had kills in each of those runs, the second of which ended the set and stopped Jamestown’s streak of 19 consecutive set losses.  UJ hit .441 in the set.

Benjamin Allred, Swiderski and Cook had kills followed by a Swiderski ace to put Jamestown in front 9-3 in the second set.  Park came as close as down 16-14, but Myers had three kills and Niemiec killed on set point as the Jimmies hit .346.

Swiderski had three kills and an ace and Niemiec also served an ace as the Jimmies led 12-4 to start the third set.  Park was never closer than five points again as the Jimmies again hit well at .444

For the match, Jamestown out hit Park .410 to .150.  The Jimmies had 43 kills and the Bucs scored 29.

Jamestown will face Arizona Christian on Tuesday night in Glendale, Arizona.
