
DICKINSON – Jamestown Jimmies Baseball split their first two games of the NSAA Preseason Classic Friday at Dakota Community Bank & Trust Ballpark, defeating Mayville State 4-2 and losing to Dickinson State 6-2.
Jamestown 4, Mayville State 2 (7)
Avery Liestman pitched a complete game five-hitter and Jordan Singleton doubled in the first two runs for the Jimmies (17-6) in their seventh win in the last eight games.
Singleton’s double came in the first inning. Mayville State scored on a UJ error in the second.
Jamestown’s other two runs were produced on a Varen Sabino groundout and a double by Isaiah Roebuck in the sixth inning.
Kevin Conway homered for the other run for the Comets (8-9) in the sixth.
Liestman (5-1) struck out five and hit a batter in his third complete game of the season and sixth as a Jimmie.
Dickinson State 6, Jamestown 2 (7)
Dickinson State (7-16) rallied for four runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Blue Hawks, who trailed 2-1 before the inning, scored the tying run on a wild pitch by the Jimmies’ Ben Bohlmann. Bohlmann then hit Ty Farwell with the bases loaded to force in the go-ahead run. A bases-loaded walk to Luke Braaten improved the DSU lead to 4-2 and Cameron Erickson capped the rally with an RBI single.
Moses Dokes provided the final Dickinson State run in the seventh with a single.
Ryan Muizelaar hit his fifth home run of the season for Jamestown (17-7), a two-run shot to right field, in the top of the first. Erickson hit a sacrifice fly for the Blue Hawks’ first run in the third inning.
Luke Zimmer (2-2) gave up three runs and four hits in five and a third innings with eight strikeouts and two walks.
UJ’s last two games in this event will be in Dickinson Saturday against VCSU and Mayville State.
