Jamestown, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Region 1 Boys Basketball Tournament wrapped up on Thursday March 13th with the 3rd place and Championship Games. Winner of 3rd place goes to a State Qualifying game against the Region 2 Runner Ups while the loser of the Championship game plays the 3rd place team from Region 2.

Third Place Games: D2-1 Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 40-43 D2-2 LaMoure-LM

The Loboes keep their season alive as they beat the Thunder off of a final second 3 ball from Mason Warcken to win 43-40. The game started with the Loboes running out to a quick 21-9 lead after the first quarter. That lead would grow to 23-9 early in the 2nd but the Thunder would go on a 14-1 run to make it 24-23 at the half. The Loboes would get the lead back in the 3rd as they’d take a 36-28 lead into the 4th. The Thunder would then bring it close again to make it 40-40 late in the game. The Loboes would get the ball late in the final minute with Warcken drilling a corner trey to take the win 43-40.

The Loboes will play at 7:00 pm Saturday at the SHAC in Fargo against the Region 2 runner ups. MPB season comes to a close with a 13-12 record.

Championship: D1-1 Oakes 45-58 D1-2 Hankinson

The Pirates return to the  State Tourney for the first time since 2007 as they beat the Tornadoes by a final score of 58-45. The game started back and forth before the Pirates led by Raeshaun Earl built a 16-12 lead after the 1st quarter. They’d build that lead up to 24-18 at the half. The Tornadoes would keep it within 7 in the 3rd quarter with the score being 37-30. Earl would pop off for 15 in the 4th however to clinch the 58-45 win for the Pirates.

Hankinson will now play at the State Tournament in Minot. Oakes will play in a State Qualifying game against #6 Midway-Minto on Saturday at 5:00 pm at the SHAC.
