DEVILS LAKE (NewsDakota)- The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets are one win away from their first state tournament berth since 2019, but they sure did not do it the easy way.

Easton Simon and Bennett Meier had 13 each and the Rockets beat the Warwick Warriors 46-42 to advance to Thursday night’s Region 2B Championship Game in a game that featured ten ties and seven lead changes less than a month since the last meeting, where the Rockets won by 20.

But this was nothing like that from the get go, as for the second straight game New Rockford-Sheyenne raced to an early 8-1 lead, but Dalton Joramo hit a three and at the end of one quarter it was 14-12 Warriors.

The game was never more than a two possession game for the duration of the final three quarters as Joramo and Anthony Touche (15 points each) led Warwick in the back and forth affair.

In the second quarter, Meier raced in for a layup that put him over 1,000 career points for the Rockets, and in the second half, Alex Weisenberger and Kage Walford combined for twelve points as the Rockets held on by winning the fourth quarter.

New Rockford-Sheyenne will play North Border for the Class B Region 2 Championship and the automatic berth to the 2025 Class B State Tournament in Minot on Thursday night, with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 6:45 PM.
