
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Saturday evening in Minot the Valley City Hi-Liners Girls won the North Dakota High School Activities Association State A Basketball Championship. It is an event you will always remember along with relationships with teammates, team managers and coaches to last a lifetime. Your citizenship and sportsmanship were projected as exemplary, Congratulations.
“Hats off” to you all who compete in high school and university sports and fine arts. Many of you are in tournaments now and only the winning team advances while the other’s season ends; great life experiences. Theodore Roosevelt’s “The Man (person) in the Arena” is something you as competitors may want to read. “It is not the critic who counts: not the person who points out how the strong stumble or where the doer of deeds could have done better.”….. “The credit belongs to the person who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming.” Whether your team won or lost its last game, Kudos to you for being “in the arena”.
Our weather has been wonderful and looks to be windy with low humidity this week. A downside is flammable vegetation so we have fire dangers, please be very careful.
Saturday Sue and I went to Winter Show, toured displays, checked food vendor offerings (smelled great!) and of course visited with friends. It was fun seeing the parking lots full and the bleachers appeared “packed” for the Rodeo performance. Sunday morning we enjoyed Cowboy Church and coffee in the South Exhibit Building. Thank you to all who facilitated the 88th North Dakota Winter Show.
For musicians and we older folks, you may want to see PBS’ “Deconstruction of the Beatles”. Trivia, if I heard correctly, the Beatles last performed for a paying audience in 1966!
