VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series Season 24, in conjunction with the What in the World Series, Presents: Dr. Alexander Jorgensen (VCSU) “Government 101: Who is in Charge of What? ” 7PM Thursday, March 20th, 2025, at the Barnes County Museum. (315 Central Ave N. Valley City, ND)
The 2024 Presidential election returned Donald Trump to the White House as only the second president to be elected to two non-consecutive terms. How will Trump’s second term shape the country, its people, the economy, and our alliances? Early acts indicate a reshaping of the federal government at an almost unprecedented level. Many of these executive changes have been challenged in courts around the country.
If your knowledge about American government is a bit rusty, join us for a refresher! Dr. Jorgensen will highlight the functions of branches of government, federalism, and select policy areas recently impacted by executive actions.( e.g. Can he really abolish the Department of Education?)
Dr. Alex Jorgensen is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Valley City State University and serves on the Barnes County Historical Museum board. He has been with the Social Science Department at VCSU since 2020. Dr. Jorgensen has previously presented in this series on the topics of Russia’s War in Ukraine and the War in Israel and Gaza. He lives in Valley City with his wife, Megan, and their five children.
