WAHPETON, N.D.— The Wahpeton Huskies dominated from start to finish on Senior Night, rolling past the Valley City Hi-Liners 65-24 in boys’ basketball action Thursday.

Wahpeton wasted no time taking control, jumping out to a 19-3 lead after the first quarter. The Huskies continued their strong play in the second, outscoring Valley City 17-8 to take a commanding 36-11 lead into halftime. The third quarter saw more of the same, with Wahpeton pouring in 24 points while holding the Hi-Liners to just six. Point guard Brayden Steffens led the charge for Wahpeton, finishing with a game-high 19 points before exiting in the third quarter.

The Huskies’ defensive effort was just as impressive, holding Valley City’s top scorer Bryson Heck in check before he left with an injury in the third. Without their leading scorer, the Hi-Liners struggled offensively, with Finn Dockter and Teagan Zaun leading the way with six points each. With the game well in hand, Wahpeton went to its bench in the fourth, closing out the comfortable 65-24 win without issues.

With the win, Wahpeton improved to 14-8, while Valley City fell to 9-12. The Huskies will look to carry their momentum into their next game, while the Hi-Liners hope to bounce back against Kindred on Monday, March 3.

That game will be broadcast on 1490 AM and 96.3 FM KOVC, as well as streamed online at NewsDakota.com.
