FARGO, ND (MFDA) – The last of eight large radial-arm gates for the FM Area Diversion’s three control structures is about to be lifted into place, marking a big milestone for the FM Area Diversion project. Additionally, excavation on the stormwater diversion channel just passed 33 million cubic yards, which would be enough to fill the North Dakota Capitol building 409 times. See these and other highlights in the just-released February drone construction update video, https://youtu.be/JYHwtJrdR6Y?feature=shared.
Crossings: ASN Constructors, the design and construction arm for the Red River Valley Alliance, drove piling and completed concrete work at numerous crossing sites this month. At County Road 6, west of Horace, North Dakota, they worked on the crossing’s substructure, including the bridge abutments and piers. South of there, at County Road 14, they finished the piling and have begun substructure work. County Road 14 is the last of the 16 road crossings to have the h-pile foundations completed.
Red River Structure: Ames Construction, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contractor building the FM Area Diversion’s three control structures, assembled the last radial-arm Tainter gate and will soon lift it into its final position. Once completed, all eight gates, which together weigh more than 11 of the “World’s Largest Buffalo” statues in Jamestown, North Dakota, will be completed. They also began driving piling for portions of the structure’s upstream approach apron, and they have been getting concrete work done on the east and west flood walls and piers when weather allows.
Stormwater Diversion Channel: ASN Constructors has focused their work on Reach 12, west of Horace, North Dakota. They’ve now excavated more than 33 million cubic yards of material.
