JAMESTOWN – Kate Cordes had already proven that she is one of the top scorers ever for University of Jamestown Women’s Basketball.  Wednesday, she proved that she can provide a special performance.

Cordes scored a career-high 36 points as third seed Jamestown defeated sixth seed Dickinson State 90-74 at Harold Newman Arena in a quarterfinal of the NSAA Women’s Basketball Championship.

Cordes hit 13-of-20 shots and six-of-12 three-pointers while dishing out six assists and pulling down three rebounds for Jamestown (18-9).  Her previous career high in points had been 32, achieved three times this season.

Megan Oswald hit five-of-six shots, including her second career three-pointer, and scored 11 for the Jimmies.

Jamestown struggled through the first quarter with their shooting, dropping in just seven-of-19, but still led 19-18 after one.

In the second quarter, UJ hit six three-pointers, including three by Cordes and one each for Jayden Wiest and Sarah Lenz in a 23-7 run that turned a tight game into a double-digit Jamestown lead.  After 27 second quarter points, the Jimmies led 46-36 at halftime.

Five more third quarter threes helped Jamestown to a 70-53 lead after three and Jamestown then made eight-of-11 from the floor in the fourth quarter to defeat Dickinson State (8-18) for the fourth time this season.

Kayden Steele led the Blue Hawks with 18 points.  Samantha Oase scored 14.

The win advances Jamestown into a semifinal matchup with second seed Mayville State on Saturday in Mayville.  Coverage will begin at 10:30 AM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1, to be followed immediately by the semifinal game for the Jimmie men against Dakota State at Harold Newman Arena.
