OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – University of Jamestown Baseball opened its 2025 spring schedule Sunday by splitting a doubleheader with 20th-ranked Concordia (NE) at Piedmont High School.
The Jimmies rallied from 7-0 down after two innings to take the opener 11-9 before the Bulldogs won the second game 10-4.
Game 1: Jamestown 11, (20)Concordia (NE) 9
For Jamestown, the return to play didn’t have a promising start when Bradley Hallock hit a two-run double in a three-run first inning for Concordia (3-1) and Jaidan Quinn hit a second-inning grand slam.
But the Jimmies (7-2) started striking back in the third. Jordan Singleton drove in one run in that inning and two more scored on an error.
UJ was within 7-6 after a three-run fourth inning on an RBI single by Ryan Muizelaar and RBI doubles by Alex Alva and Isaiah Roebuck.
Alva struck a two-run double in the fifth and Triston Madison followed with an RBI single for the Jimmies’ third straight three-run inning and a 9-7 lead.
Matthew Rhoades doubled in a run in the Concordia sixth, but Roebuck knocked in two with a double in the Jimmie seventh for an 11-8 Jamestown lead.
Rhoades singled in a run with two out in the bottom of the seventh, but Ethan Petty induced a groundout by Jaeden Jordahl to save the Jimmie win and leave the bases loaded for the Bulldogs.
UJ starter Avery Liestman (3-1) survived the early barrage for the win, allowing seven runs (five earned) and eight hits with four strikeouts, a walk and a hit batter in five innings. Petty earned his first save, striking out three in an inning and two-thirds.
Game 2: (20)Concordia (NE) 10, Jamestown 4
This time, Jamestown couldn’t come back from another quick start by Concordia (4-1), who led 9-2 after four innings.
Those two early runs for the Jimmies (7-3) came in the first inning when Alva tripled in a run and scored on an error.
Rhoades doubled in a run in the Concordia first, then an error tied the game in the second inning.
Rhoades homered and Bronx Lewis and Michael Welch had RBI doubles in a three-run third inning for the Bulldogs.
Jordahl then hit Concordia’s second grand slam of the doubleheader in the fourth.
Landon Runge and Ben Swennumson both singled in runs in the seventh for Jamestown, but Ty Nekoliczak singled in the last of the seventh for the Bulldogs’ final run.
Jamestown starter Luke Zimmer (2-2) was shelled, giving up seven runs (six earned) in three innings. He allowed four hits, but also walked five while striking out four.
The Jimmies and Bulldogs will play another doubleheader at Piedmont High School on Monday.
