JAMESTOWN – For the second straight day, University of Jamestown Softball split games inside the Nelson Family Bubble on Saturday.  The Jimmies fell 6-2 to Dickinson State before defeating Concordia (MN) 2-1.

Dickinson State 6, Jamestown 2
Four runs in the first two innings paced Dickinson State (8-3). In a two-run first, Baylee Berg hit an RBI single and Kara Conway knocked an RBI double for the Blue Hawks. The lead became 4-0 in the DSU second inning after Celina Wilharm had an RBI double and Brooke Lijewski hit an RBI single.

Maddie Spaeth provided Jamestown (5-8) with their runs on a two-run double in the third inning.

An error scored a Dickinson State run in the fourth and Berg drove in another run in the sixth with a double.

Abby Blair (1-4) lasted only an inning and two-thirds in the circle for the Jimmies, giving up four runs and six hits with a strikeout, a walk and a hit batter.

Jamestown 2, Concordia (MN) 1
A scoreless duel between Concordia’s Bayleigh Frye and Jamestown’s Maddie Hairgrove was broken with two runs for the Jimmies (6-8) in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Trinity Gregg beat out an infield hit to start the rally and was bunted to second by Lauren Weigel. Spaeth then singled in Gregg for a 1-0 UJ lead, taking second after an outfield throw. A passed ball sent Gregg to third, and she then scored on an error.

Concordia (1-3) threatened in the visiting seventh. Brooklyn Hofer doubled with one out, then scored on an error. Hope Ransome then struck out Halle Mattern and induced a groundout by Corra Utash to end the game.

Hairgrove (1-0) pitched six shutout innings for her first win as a Jimmie, giving up only one hit, striking out eight and walking two. Ransome earned her third save.

The next 13 games for the Jimmies will be in Arizona at the Tucson Invitational Games, starting with La Sierra University and Arizona Christian University on Monday, March 3.
