
JAMESTOWN – Dakota State showed again why its women’s basketball team is among the best in the NAIA to the University of Jamestown Friday. Then, the Jimmie men responded after a tough game a week earlier with a good win.
Dakota State dropped Jamestown 73-63 in women’s basketball Friday at Harold Newman Arena. The Jimmie men stopped the Trojans 86-77.

Frustrating Jamestown through the game with pressure defense, Dakota State (21-4, 13-1) forced 19 turnovers and completed a sweep of the regular season series.
The Jimmies (17-8, 7-7) led 2-0, then not again, trailing by as much as 17 late in the game.
Angela Slattery hit for 18 for the Trojans, including four three-pointers. Tabor Teel added 14 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Kate Cordes knocked down four threes and had 21 for Jamestown. Kate Busek scored nine.
DSU hit 48 percent of their field goals and outrebounded Jamestown 38-29 in defeating the Jimmies for the third time this season.
The loss ensured that Jamestown will be the third seed in the NSAA Women’s Basketball Championship and will host Dickinson State in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday at Harold Newman Arena.
Men: Jamestown 86, Dakota State 77
A week after losing for the third time to Dickinson State, Jamestown (15-10, 10-4 NSAA) came out with a fast-paced game and great shooting. The Jimmies made 63 percent of their shots in the first half in taking a 46-40 halftime lead.
Dakota State did not relent after trailing by as much as 11 in the second half, coming within four with just under six minutes remaining. The Trojans (11-15, 4-10) also shot well at 51 percent from the field.
Jamestown ended the game with 56 percent field goal shooting.
Silas Bennion scored 18 for UJ with six assists, four rebounds and two steals. Owen Hektner hit five three-pointers while scoring 17. Anthony Walters also notched 17 on seven-of-10 shooting.
Lane Tietz dropped in 11 for Dakota State. Braden Pankonen, Tyler Beckwith, Colby Dillenbeck and Lukas Morgan each scored 10.
With Dickinson State’s win Friday over Bellevue, the Jimmies will be the second seed in the NSAA Men’s Basketball Championship and will host a semifinal game on Saturday, March 1 at Harold Newman Arena.
