PINGREE (NewsDakota)- The Carrington Cardinal boys basketball team played their first game in a week on Thursday against an old rival, and scored the games’ first six points.  But then Medina/Pingree-Buchanan answered.

The Thunder went on a 16-0 run spanning the final 5:30 of the opening quarter and never trailed again in a 77-64 win over Carrington on Thursday night in the Cardinals last non-region game of the season.

The Cardinals (12-7) only made one field goal in the first quarter and were able to make several runs to close the gap, including in the second quarter when Taylen Mehring hit four of his six threes in the game and Carrington trailed by just four at the break.

But Freshman Gage Hofmann and Junior Terek Kinzell kept the Cardinals at arms length for the Thunder (9-10) and Chase Ova helped close the game in the fourth quarter as the Thunder wrapped up their regular season.

Carrington are back in action on Friday night, February 28th at Grafton with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 6:45 PM.

Medina/Pingree-Buchanan open District 2 Tournament play on Friday, February 28th as the 4-seed, facing 5-seed Ellendale at 4:30 PM on Thunder 98.3
