Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The #9 Oakes Tornadoes boys basketball team picked up their 10th straight win beating the Medina/Pingree/Buchanan Thunder by a final score of 71-56.

The game started off rather even with Oakes controlling most of the play but the Thunder would stay close throughout the first half. The Tornadoes would take a 16-11 lead through the 1st quarter and 31-27 into the half. The leading scorers in the first half was Eddie Garza for Oakes with 10 and Gage Hoffman with 10 for MPB. Oakes was up by close to 10 before the end of the half but a late flury cut that lead down by more then half.

Oakes would then lock it up in the 3rd quarter as they came out firing with Roddek Schmitt dropping 8 and Jyles Meier putting in 6 as they’d go 8/13 from the field while MPB only went 4/10 on the quarter. They’d take a 50-37 lead through the 3rd quarter. Oakes would get into a bit of foul trouble in the 4th which allowed MPB to keep apace the Tornadoes but Schmitt would drop another 8 points to help lead Oakes to the 71-56 victory.

The Bank North Player of the Game was Roddek Schmitt with 24 points (9/11 FG, 6/9 FT). Other Oakes double digit scorers were Eddie Garza with 18 (7/15 FG, 2/3 FT) and Jyles Meier with 15 (7/10 FG, 1/2 FT). The leading scores for MPB were Roper Foerderer with 15 (4/8 FG, 7/9 FT) and Terek Kinzell with 15 (5/12 FG, 2/2 FT).
