VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Hi-Liner/Farmers Union Wrestler of the Week for the week ending Saturday, February 15, 2025 is Victoria Sanchez.
Victoria is a Senior at VCHS and had wrestled at 124lbs all season, until the Girls East Region Tournament this past Friday 14th, where she made the drop to the 118lb weight class.  She entered the East Region tournament as the #4 seed.  Victoria dominated her way through the finals to become the 2025 North Dakota East Region Girls Champion.  She won her first match by pin in just 15 seconds.  Her quarter-final match was 9-3 win over a feisty Taya Laidlaw of Fargo.  In her semi-final match, Victoria beat the tournament #1 seed  Danica Bennett of Pembina County North by a score of 9-2.  In her final match of the day, to finish a perfect 4-0, Victoria beat #3 seed Alyssa Nitschke of South Border by a pin in the second period.   Victoria enters the ND State Tournament as the #2 seed.  Wrestling begins this Thursday, in the Fargodome at 10am.
Coaches note: Victoria is only in second full year of wrestling, so for her to have accomplished what she has accomplished is amazing. She has put in a lot of time outside of regular practice time to get better at this sport.  After practice, weekends, and all summer she put in extra time.   Her success on the competition mat comes from a  handful of “go-to” moves combined with her high-level physical strength. Victoria will be attending college and wrestling this fall in North Dakota.  She has narrowed her choice down to two colleges.
