
JAMESTOWN – Linton/Hazelton-Moffitt-Braddock earned its third district title in five years Monday with a 68-59 win over LaMoure-Litchville/Marion in the title game of the Class B District 2 Girls Basketball Tournament at the Jamestown Civic Center.
Along with those two teams, Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier and Kidder County earned spots in next week’s Region 1 tournament with regional qualifying victories.
Championship – Linton/HMB 68, LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 59
Linton/HMB (17-5) avenged a regular season loss to LLM with 35 points from the district’s Senior Athlete of the Year, Jersey Vogel. She hit 11-of-15 field goals, three three-pointers and 10-of-13 free throws. Vogel also had five rebounds, an assist and four steals and became a 1,000 point career scorer. Brooklyn Schumacher had 16 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, when she hit two threes to blunt a Lobo comeback attempt.
Addison Smith and Nola DelaBarre each scored 14 for LLM (17-4), whose 13-game winning streak was snapped. Onika Lesko dropped in 13 points and Julia DelaBarre had 10.
Region Qualifier – Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 50, Ellendale 20
EKM (13-9) easily defeated turnover-prone Ellendale, who could not overcome 29 miscues. Jaelyn Bertsch scored 13 points with six rebounds for the Rebels. Libby Mathern had 12 and each hit two three-pointers.
Ariel Hagan scored eight points with eight rebounds for Ellendale (5-17).
Region Qualifier – Kidder County 45, Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 32
Coming from eight points down in the third quarter, the Wolves (12-10) had a 26-5 run to end the game. Taylor Zimmerman led Kidder County with 19 points and scored her 1,000th career point late in the game. Brennah Pfaff scored 11 and each pulled down eight rebounds.
Leading Napoleon/G-S (6-16) was Hope Gross with 13 points, five rebounds and four steals.
