CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- It was a game that Carrington needed for so many reasons. And on Monday night, they got it, along with momentum into the postseason.
Edyn Hornaert had 19 points and the Cardinals allowed only four first half field goals in a 57-17 win over a severely shorthanded Four Winds-Mennewaukan team to put an end to their four game losing streak and clinch a first round bye in the upcoming Region 2 Tournament.
It started immediately, with Hornaert scoring twelve in the opening quarter and Carrington (16-5, 8-2) never trailed against the Indians (5-16, 2-8), who had only seven players after four members of the team, including three starters, suffered season-ending injuries recently.
Eight Cardinals scored as every player got to see the floor and Carrington did not allow the Indians to hit a field goal after halftime.
Carrington are the #2 seed in next weeks’ Class A Region 2 Tournament and will play at 7 pm on Tuesday on KDAK The Cardinal against the winner of #6 seed Hillsboro/CV and #3 seed Thompson, who play on Monday night.
