WATFORD CITY – A steady year has paid off for Jamestown Blue Jays boys wrestler Lucas Schlepuetz.

On Saturday, Schlepuetz finished sixth at 152 pounds in the Class A West Region Individual Wrestling tournament at the Rough Rider Center, becoming the only Blue Jay to qualify for the state individual tournament.

Schlepuetz won in the first round, then lost in the quarterfinal, then had a pin and a major decision in the consolation round to ensure his shot to wrestle next week.

The NDHSAA Class A Boys State Individual Wrestling Championship will be held Thursday and Friday at the Fargodome.
