DICKINSON – University of Jamestown Women’s Basketball had a solid win, just when it needed one. The Jimmie men couldn’t overcome three-pointers in a showdown for first place in the NSAA.

Women: Jamestown 67, Dickinson State 50
The Jimmies (17-7, 7-6 NSAA) moved, through Friday, into a second-place tie as Kate Cordes scored 12 points.
Hannah Hagel scored nine, but was limited to 10 minutes of playing time, as she played with an ankle sprain. Kate Busek scored eight points with 10 rebounds.
Kayden Steele led Dickinson State (8-16, 3-10) with 14 points. Samantha Oase scored nine points with 10 rebounds.
The Jimmies led by as many as 11 in the first quarter and were up 22-10 after one. Cordes scored seven points in the quarter and Busek pulled down eight rebounds.
Katherine Fox scored in the paint for DSU with 6:50 left in the first half and the Blue Hawks were down only three a 24-21. Jamestown then took control by scoring the next 14 points on a three-point play by Hagel, a free throw by Cordes, a three by Hail Savela, a bucket in the lane by Jessika Lofstrom, two free throws by Jayden Wiest and a three-pointer by Samantha Paulsen. The Jimmies led 42-24 at halftime.
Jamestown’s lead then widened to 27 in the third quarter.
Through Friday, the Jimmies were tied with Mayville State for second in the NSAA.
Men: Dickinson State 81, Jamestown 59
A sizzling stretch in the first half by Blue Hawk reserve Gus Wright helped Dickinson State (15-10, 10-3 NSAA) take a one-game lead in the league with two games remaining.
With 7:40 left in the first half, Jamestown (14-10, 9-4) led 21-20. 15 seconds later, Wright hit the second of his six three-pointers in the half. Two free throws by Silas Bennion tied the game for UJ at 23-23 with 6:47 to go. But DSU was in a stretch of scoring on 10 consecutive possessions. Kose Egbule hit three buckets and Bradyn Palmer had two, helping the Blue Hawks to a 33-28 edge.
Then came the clinching three-pointers.
At 3:09, Egbule hit one for a 36-28 lead for Dickinson State. Shortly after, Wright hit four threes in a 1:53 time frame and the Blue Hawks led 48-30 at halftime.
Jamestown was never closer then 15 points down for the rest of the game.
Wright led DSU with 18 points. Egbule hit 14 with six rebounds and six assists. John Evans scored 10 with five assists and three rebounds.
Anthony Walters paced Jamestown with 13 points. Jimmy Llinas scored 12 with six rebounds. Silas Bennion dropped in 10.
Even though the Dickinson State lead for first over the Jimmies is one game, the Blue Hawks would have a tiebreaker advantage, having swept the Jimmies in their three regular season games. Jamestown will be at least the second seed in the NSAA Men’s Basketball Championship, but to be the top seed, the Jimmies must win their final two regular season games and have Dickinson State lose their last two.
UJ will start their final regular season weekend on Friday, February 21st, hosting Dakota State at Harold Newman Arena. Coverage of the doubleheader will begin at 5:00 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
