JAMESTOWN – For the second time this season, Jamestown Blue Jay Girls Basketball held down, at least relatively speaking, the top AA West girls team. But also for the second time, the Blue Jays couldn’t find their offense.
Minot used a 28-3 second-half run on Tuesday to pull away from Jamestown 57-32 at Jerry Meyer Arena.
In some ways, this game was similar to the first regular season meeting in Minot, when the Majettes won 59-40. Both teams struggled on offense in the first half, especially Jamestown, who fell behind 10-0 and scored their first points just over 10 minutes into the game.
Yet, the Blue Jays (5-12, 3-11 WDA) moved to within five points at 13-8 before trailing 22-14 at halftime. After a Mea Ulland three-pointer in the first moments of the second half, Jamestown was again within five, but that’s when the big run began for first-place Minot (17-1, 13-1). Ariana Rood scored all of her 10 points in that big run. Reigning Gatorade Player of the Year LeeLee Bell scored nine of her game-high 17 points in that stretch.
Ulland and Macey Neumiller scored nine points each for Jamestown, each with three three-pointers, but the Blue Jays lost for the fifth straight game.
Jamestown will play Friday at Bismarck High.
