JAMESTOWN – Future NSIC foe Minot State won twice more over University of Jamestown Softball Wednesday, sweeping a doubleheader 5-3 and 5-2 inside the Nelson Family Bubble. The Jimmies are 4-6, and four of their losses have been to the Beavers.
Game 1: Minot State 5, Jamestown 3
Minot State (6-2) had a good and quick start when Sara Van Wickler led off the game with a home run to right field.
Sara Misner made the Beaver lead 3-0 with a two-run homer to right in the top of the fourth.
Jamestown (4-5) scratched in the home fourth. Kayla Quintanilla doubled in Lauren Weigel, who had singled. Quintanilla scored later in the inning on an error.
Minot State restored their three-run lead with two unearned runs in the sixth inning, driven in by a Taylor Eatherton single.
Tori Olson led off the Jimmie seventh with a pinch-double and scored with two out on a double by Trinity Gregg, but Lauren Weigel then grounded out to end the game.
Hope Ransome (3-2) took the defeat in the circle, allowing five runs (three earned) in six innings with seven hits and seven strikeouts.
Game 2: Minot State 5, Jamestown 2
Game two started even worse for Jamestown than game one did. An error and passed ball led to four unearned runs in the top of the first inning for Minot State (7-2). Anna LaCount drove in the first run with a ground out, Eatherton hit another two-run single and Taylor Smith stole home.
Van Wickler hit another home run in the top of the second for a 5-0 Beaver lead.
Both runs for UJ (4-6) came in the home second on the first collegiate home run for Kylie Yanzuk. Abby Blair had walked with two out.
Jamestown missed many chances, leaving 11 runners on base, including leaving two stranded in five different innings.
Blair (1-3) gave up all five MSU runs in one inning plus. Maddie Hairgrove struck out six in five and a third innings of scoreless relief.
The Jimmies will play again inside the Bubble on Friday, February 21, meeting VCSU at 11:00 AM and UMary at 8:00 PM.
