BISMARCK, N.D. (PPR) – The Senate Education Committee is considering a bill to allow local school districts to adopt policies concerning the use of cellphones and other wireless devices in classrooms.
The bill’s sponsor – Bismarck Republican Senator Michelle Axtman – told the Committee those devices can cause self-esteem issues, as well as lower proficiencies in math and English skills.
Carter Hass of Valley City is a member of the state association of Student Councils. He told the Committee Valley City schools have adopted policies on cellphone use by students. And Hass says such policies lead to what he termed “immense benefits.”
The committee did not take action, and is looking at potential amendments.
